The best techniques in Marvel’s Wolverine will be ones that improve your fighting skills against various enemies. As you gain XP to level up you’ll earn Technique Points which can then be spent on giving Logan new ways of battling enemies. On that note, here are our picks for the best techniques in Wolverine.

Best Techniques in Wolverine
There are two types of techniques in Wolverine. You’ve got the basic techniques which can be found in the squares at the top of the 'Techniques' menu and once you’ve equipped these they are available all the time. They are either passively working in the background or you’ll need to use specific controls to activate them during a fight.
Then you’ve got the special techniques at the bottom of this menu, these ones have connecting skills you can unlock to improve their effectiveness or power. These ones will need to be activated by pressing L1 and a corresponding command (either Triangle, Circle, X, or Square) when charged. Once used, you’ll need to wait for them to recharge before activating them again.
For this guide, I’ve picked a mixture of both base techniques and special techniques to make a list of the ones that have been the most useful as I went through the story.
Please Note: These are ones I’ve found most useful while playing through the story. These ones suit my preferred playstyle, and the ones you find best may be different - these are merely suggestions.
Knee Breaker
Knee Breaker is the second special technique you’ll get access to as you progress through the story and it very quickly became one of the most-used special techniques I had equipped. Knee Breaker lets you bash an enemy in the head to stagger them, and it interrupts any incoming attack and gives you a solid window for inflicting your own damage.
This specific technique is useful for singling out enemies from a crowd. Even if you don’t have the capacity for a follow up attack (for instance, if you’re surrounded by multiple enemies) it will still take one out of the running for a moment so you can focus on whittling down the rest. It’s also extremely useful when you’re facing larger brute enemies, this will allow you to jump up to their level and if you press Square repeatedly quickly after doing so you’ll land multiple heavy-hitting strikes with your claws.
Overwhelm
Time for another special technique to arrive on the list. Overwhelm lets you lift up an enemy, charge them forward and slam them either on the ground or into a wall to stagger them which leaves them open for a follow up attack. I levelled this up to its maximum level and have no regrets about spending the Technique Points on it.
Overwhelm, amusingly, comes in handy when Logan is being overwhelmed with enemies. Being able to tackle one out of the way while knocking others back and then following up with a devastating attack is handy when the crowds get a bit too much. Using this also lets you escape a potentially lethal situation and focus your energy on picking off enemies one by one.
Power Attack Counter
Back to basic techniques for a moment with Power Attack Counter. This technique lets you tap Square or Triangle after dodging after a Power Attack to counter it with a strong stagger attack. This technique will become more useful the further you get into the story as the enemies seem to favour Power Attacks more and more. Dodging, while crucial for keeping you alive, can make some fights longer than they need to be but this technique lets you use it to your advantage.
Also, being able to send back a strong stagger attack to big enemies (as they are often the ones to use Power Attacks) gives you a clear and safe opportunity to inflict some damage of your own.
Rushing Dropkick
Rushing Dropkick is another basic technique that’s worth getting the moment you have enough Technique Points to unlock it. If you hold Square while sprinting you can dropkick an enemy to send them flying backwards and this can interrupt their attacks. Now, the obvious use of this is crowd controlling enemies that are surrounding you and putting them in a position where it’s easier to attack them. You can also stagger them if you manage to kick them back into a wall or solid object. However, this isn’t actually why I’ve put this on the list.
The reason Rushing Dropkick is useful to have is that you can dropkick enemies off ledges, off buildings, and generally out of existence. You have to make sure that they’re near the edge to do this which is the only downside.
Stagger Leap
Stagger Leap is a basic technique that lets you unleash a lunge attack that deals Stagger damage by charging up with Triangle. This is one of the earliest basic techniques you can unlock and, though it seems rather simple, it’s highly effective and one you’re probably going to find yourself using time and time again.
This attack is particularly handy when enemies are spread out around an area, especially if they have ranged weapons like guns. Being able to charge up and leap over to them to take them out reduces how much incoming damage you’ll take. It also helps you move around a bit faster too.
Relentless
The last special technique on this list is Relentless, and one that is very apt for Wolverine. After all, his healing factor allows him to survive the most brutal of environments. Relentless gives you a rapid boost to your Healing Factor and lets you heal much faster for a period of time.
At first, I wasn’t sure about how useful this would be as Logan does regenerate slowly on his own. However, the bigger and faster the enemies got, the more useful this became. It also proved handy in Nightmare Gauntlets, and when I increased the difficulty level for more of a challenge overall.
Now, there are other special techniques you can unlock that will be better for certain situations so my advice here is to switch out Relentless with one of the others when you need to. If you know you’re going into a Gauntlet or you’re struggling getting past a certain fight, you can equip it again.
Important: The technique I discuss below is an end-game technique unlock and may be a spoiler. If you want to avoid this, then stop reading here and I hope you enjoyed the page! If you’re not worried about a potential spoiler, then keep going.Charged Helix Blast
This basic technique won’t be unlocked for you until much further into the story but it’s a game changer when you get it. It’s worth spending those technique points on and you’ll feel powerful once you’ve got it. Charged Helix Blast will let you hold R1 to charge up your Helix Claws then release a ranged blast to strike at targets around you. This is a strong AOE attack that will change the tide of a fight whether you’re surrounded by five or fifteen enemies.
It makes short work of most enemies, but in particular I found that I used it the most against Sentinels - the Helix Blast and follow up attacks helped me keep them under control.
