Per Bloomberg, Microsoft will begin offering buyouts to roughly 60,000 of its employees across its Canadian, Indian and UK teams at “a vice president level and below”. Per a Microsoft spokesperson, this buyout is “another way to adapt their workforce to changing needs” as the company—like many in the US tech force—attempt to leverage LLM AI to reduce headcounts.

In a note to workers on Monday, Chief People Officer Amy Coleman wrote, “This offer gives eligible employees who may be considering a future outside the company a new choice to make that transition now with support”.

As of this year, the company’s headcount hovers around 223,000 employees, with a potential 60,000 in buyouts hammering away a little over 25% of the massive technology employer and is compounded by the recent “great Xbox reset” that is actively ravaging the Xbox division. This buyout also comes in the face of Microsoft’s record revenue in 2026 alone—marking 331.8 billion USD across the board and up 18% year-over-year.
