Here at 80 Level, we can never get enough of animation references. You never know what kind of hilarious real-life footage is hiding behind the polished sequences you eventually see on screen, or how your favorite scenes were made.
Daniel Ceballos, Lead Animator at Sony Pictures Imageworks, regularly treats us to glimpses of the live-action references used in the studio's productions, including Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, KPop Demon Hunters, and the 2026 animated sports film GOAT. Recently, he shared even more behind-the-scenes footage from GOAT, this time of Jett Fillmore, the superstar black panther athlete, as she gets ready in front of the mirror.
"This one ended up being tougher than expected. There were a lot of beats Jett needed to hit in a short amount of time, so it took a bit of time finding how to get to those poses. AND because we wanted the close-to-camera distortion without distorting the room in the mirror, I ended up breaking her rig a lot to make those exaggerated expressions. But it was a really fun challenge, and I always loved getting to work on Jett."
Ceballos, along with Remus and Haidi Marburger, was also behind Hannah and Will's handshake. The animators experimented with a variety of ideas before settling on the final version.
