Qin Dynasty China-set Assassin’s Creed reportedly canceled

In 2022, Ubisoft and Tencent’s publishing arm, Level Infinite, entered a deal to bring Assassin’s Creed to mobile with Assassin’s Creed Jade. Development is ongoing, but it turns out this wasn’t the two companies’ only project together, but the other is no longer moving forward.

As revealed by MP1st, the game, under the working title Assassin’s Creed Dynasty, was going to be set in Qin Dynasty China, like Jade, but set a few years later. It was spearheaded by Tencent subsidiary, TiMi Studio Group, which is also working on Jade.

Some footage is floating around in the report, featuring a female assassin infiltrating a sacred palace housing Xiang Yu and his troops alongside some random unpolished clips. There’s also indicators that the player can choose their character’s gender based on other clips. Overall, though, the game was still in early development, with the footage coming from early 2025.

Frankly, it’s too bad that the project is being put on ice, but we can’t say we’re surprised — Tencent has been trying to get out of western IPs and it seems much of its collabs with Assassin’s Creed was just collateral. Beyond Dynasty, Tencent was also partnering with Ubi on Athena, a Greek set project, which was canceled this year. It also closed down TiMi Montreal, which was working on Invictus, the PvP steampunk-style Assassin’s Creed game that is still coming out based on Ubi’s word, but Ubisoft Montreal.
